As always please note the following:
* No dogs permitted on the grounds at any time under any circumstances (not in your trailer, not in your car)
* Anyone bringing a dog will be asked to leave
* Please make sure your trainers, family and friends are aware that they are welcome but their dogs are not welcome
* No smoking on the grounds at any time
There will not be a food service vendor on the grounds. Please bring your refreshments for the day. Picnics are permitted and encouraged.
The cross country course will be open for walking after 5:00pm on Friday. Please do not block the driveway when you come to walk the course.
Most importantly, this is a schooling opportunity for you and your horse. The goal is to finish all 3 phases. If you are having trouble please ask for help. If you are eliminated in any phase you may continue as long as you are safe. If you need to drop down a level, please ask the show secretary and we will make the change.
Please be supportive of other competitors and please thank the volunteers. They are giving you their time - please thank them!!

The schooling horse trials are meant to be a wonderful opportunity to school both the horse and rider. We will run the competitions in a very relaxed atmosphere. Every emphasis will be placed on safety, fun and completing all three phases. If you are eliminated cross country, we will allow you to continue on as long as you and your horse are considered safe. We want you and your horse to have a positive learning experience. Time permitting, competitors will be allowed to ride the cross country course a second time. Please advise the start box officials and they will do their best to work you in for a second round.
Preliminary: Excellent for first time at this level. Water, banks, combinations, “skinnies”, ditch/wall, solid fences
Training: Average, some experience at this level. Options offered for more difficult fences.
Novice: Excellent for first time at this level. Very natural fences. Water, ditch and banks.
Beginner Novice: Excellent for first time at this level. Easy water. Easy ditch. Very natural obstacles.
First Timers Division: This division is open to only those horses or those riders competing in a horse trial for the first time. This division has been created to give you every opportunity to complete. Riders may have their dressage tests read to them, they may be coached in both cross country and stadium. Riders may make arrangements to have a lead over cross country elements. However, no one other than the entered rider is permitted on the horse at any time. This division is meant to have fun and build confidence. Cross Country: approx 10 fences approximately 2’, Speed not to count; No ditches. Very easy, optional water. First Timer division will be scored but will not be placed. No ribbons.
Elementary Division: Same courses and tests as First Timers but competitors must adhere to all US Eventing rules. No coaching while on course. Dressage to be completed from memory. No schooling in stadium.

ENTRIES: $95 Training and Preliminary $85 Novice, Beginner Novice, $75 Elementary and First Timers.
Please make checks payable to Elysian Hills. No refunds. Any entry cancelled prior to competition via email (no phone messages please) may be applied to any other horse trial date in 2008. Competition cancellation: all entries will be applied to future horse trial date in 2008. Neg. Coggins within 12 months required for all horses.
TENTATIVE TIME SCHEDULE: Cross-Country course open-5pm the day before competition. Date of HT: Dressage, Stadium, Cross Country Please note that Stadium is used as the “warm up” for cross country. Competitors will go directly from their stadium round to the start for cross country.
STARTING TIMES: Available at www.ElysianHills.com the Wednesday prior to the horse trial
STABLING/VETERINARIAN: On ground stalls available for $35 per night. However stalls are for night use only. Stalls must be vacated not later than 7:00am on show date. No Vet or farrier on grounds the day of show.
DIRECTIONS: From Washington DC – 66 west to exit #27 (Marshall route 647). At end of ramp turn left. Immediately turn right onto Crest Hill Road (rte 647). Continue approx 6 miles to left on Wilson Road. Continue approx ˝ mile to right on John Barton Payne. Enter first drive on left. Parking is in field at top of hill.
DRESSAGE: P- 2006 USEF Preliminary Test A T-2006 USEF Training Test A-Sm. N-2006 USEF Novice Test A-Sm. BN-2006 USEF Beginner Novice Test A-Sm. E/ FT - 2007 USDF Intro B.
TIME SCHEDULE: Cross country open 3:00pm the day before competition
CROSS COUNTRY: P 2800 m @ 520 mpm T 2400 m @ 420 mpm. All N 2000 m @ 350 mpm. All BN – No Time. Max ht. 2'6" approx. 12 solid fences, water and very easy ditch. All E and FT – No Time. Max ht. 2’ approx 10 solid fences, water optional, no ditch. Terrain: Rolling open hills, established turf. Courses: P excellent for first time at this level. N and T average, for horses with some experience at these levels. E and FT excellent for first time at this level.
